Return Study Tours to Their Original Educational Mission ——In-depth Reflections of a Primary School Principal After the "Golden Seed" Training Program

 2026 marks the launch of the 15th Five-Year Plan. Both People’s Daily and Guangming Daily have issued repeated warnings against chaotic practices in study tours. The research group of the China Association for Promoting Democracy conducted special investigations in Heilongjiang Province, sending a strong signal that practical education via study tours is shifting from "expanding scale" to "improving connotative quality". As a trainee of the "Golden Seed" Training Program for Principals on Leadership in Study Tour Education, the author combines the school-running reality of Yuhong Primary School in Qiqihar and the learning characteristics of primary school students to reflect on the drawbacks prevailing in current study tours, such as "prioritizing sightseeing over research" and "checklist-style trips". This paper proposes that primary school study tours during the 15th Five-Year Plan period should target educational challenges hard to resolve in campus teaching, focusing on genuine growth demands including anxiety over new media literacy, the psychological predicament of "four lacks", and art therapy. A "Four Authenticities" study tour framework is constructed, covering authentic questions, authentic experiences, authentic inquiries and authentic growth, so as to transform study tours from "sightseeing trips on foot" back to "curriculum-based learning journeys". This article offers frontline perspectives and suggestions for the high-quality development of practical education through primary school study tours.
